San Diego- Native Strip and Driveway Extension

This front yard in Southern California was redesigned to replace a struggling lawn and accommodate a driveway extension, all while making space for a bold, low-water planting strip. The new layout frames the walkway with blooming California native plants and climate-adapted perennials, offering vibrant curb appeal and seasonal interest.

Plants such as Penstemon, Yellow Tidytips, Seaside Daisy (Erigeron), and succulents were selected to attract pollinators and soften the new hardscape edges. Natural stone, mulch, and boulders were used to enhance structure, reduce maintenance, and retain moisture.

This project showcases how function and beauty can work hand-in-hand—even in a narrow space—turning a utility upgrade into an ecological and aesthetic win.
